Variety of Business Opportunities since PG RMI Present. Sugarcane Stalls in Rejoso during the Milling Season
Funds amounting to Rp 3.42 trillion have been disbursed for the Sugar Factory (PG) PT Rejoso Manis Indo (RMI). With such an investment, many business opportunities have been created since the factory, which was established in Rejoso Village, Binangun District, Blitar Regency, started operating in 2019.
The direct impact on the agricultural and plantation sectors is clear, the presence of RMI continues to encourage the opening of new sugarcane fields. This means increasing business opportunities in the agricultural sector. Data shows that when PG RMI started operating in 2019, their number was 300 people. Then it increased to 893 people in 2020, to 998 people, and is projected to be 1,200 people in the 2022 milling season.
However, the presence of RMI does not only expand business opportunities in the agricultural sector. Residents around the 25-hectare factory can open a variety of small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), one of which is Warung Tebu. Sugarcane stalls are the names for the residents' stalls around the factory that operate inside the factory.
RMI deliberately facilitates local residents to open businesses that sell various needs for drivers, assistants, and even RMI employees.
Currently, there are 167 residents who have opened sugarcane stalls in special locations inside the factory. These stalls serve buyers 24 hours a day, both during the milling season and during the melting raw sugar season.
In the 2019-2021 milling season, these MSME stalls served 228,179 truck drivers who sent sugar cane to PG RMI. The total transactions they managed to record reached Rp 11.4 billion.
In the 2019-2021 melting raw sugar season, the total transaction between truck drivers (5,732 trucks) and MSME stalls was recorded at IDR 286.6 million.
MSME stalls also earn income when operating the transportation of sugar products and their derivatives (molasse, bagasse, milass). In 2019-2021, it was recorded that 16,252 trucks carried out the transportation and transactions between their drivers and MSME stalls reached Rp 812.6 million.
People's stalls have also sprung up outside the factory area, especially on the side of the roads that are passed by vehicles to and from PG RMI. Likewise, the number of new stalls and hawkers around the parking area in Brongkos continues to grow.
In addition to the culinary business, a business opportunity that can be utilized by the residents of Blitar and its surroundings is the provision of maintenance services for PG RMI: building maintenance, engine maintenance, and others. So far, from 2019 to 2021, PG RMI has spent Rp 747.9 billion to obtain services provided by the local MSMEs.
It is estimated that other types of businesses will continue to emerge in the future along with the development of this smallholder sugar cane-based factory. *
