PT RMI Buys 10,000 Superior Sugarcane Seeds From BSIP Plantations
The signing ceremony of the cooperation between PT RMI and BSIP Perkebunan, Tuesday (9/1/2024)
Bogor - PT Rejoso Manis Indo and the Plantation Instrument Standardization Agency (BSIP), Ministry of Agriculture signed a cooperation agreement, namely 10 thousand superior sugarcane seeds from the BSIP Plantation network culture, (Tuesday 9/1/2024).

Deputy President Director of PT Rejoso Manis Indo, Syukur Iwantoro, said that his party collaborated with BSIP Plantation by purchasing 10 thousand superior sugarcane seeds. Seeds are the main and fundamental so that this is one of PT RMI's efforts to hack the road to Indonesian sugar self-sufficiency. According to him, Indonesia is able to produce quality seeds and seedlings that have standards. And this can also dismiss the existence of a sugar cane-based sugar industry that is constrained by the procurement of quality seeds produced domestically.

"It is not true if someone states that the sugar cane-based sugar industry is constrained by the procurement of quality seeds produced domestically," said Wadirut PT RMI Syukur Iwantoro.

The signing of this cooperation was carried out by Syukur representing PT RMI with the Head of the Plantation BSIP Center Ir Syafaruddin, PhD. The superior sugarcane seed purchased is the Agribun variety, the result of mutation from the tissue culture of the Bululawang variety. This superior Agribun variety has been tested by PT RMI on 15 hectares of land in Blitar. As a result, the highest sugarcane yield was 130 tons per hectare and the lowest was 110 tons per hectare. In addition, the Agribun variety is also resistant to fire tongue disease, which can significantly reduce sugarcane productivity.

"We strongly support this cooperation in providing seeds. Moreover, the Minister of Agriculture also pays great attention to the plantation sector," said Head of the Plantation BSIP Center Ir Syafaruddin.

According to him, seeds are the beginning, both in the agricultural horticulture sector, and plantations. Especially in the plantation sector, the quality of seeds will only be known three to four years later. If you use quality and standardized seeds, of course the results will be good. In addition, Indonesia is capable of producing quality seeds. Despite the challenges, including the budget, BSIP Perkebunan is still trying to produce quality seeds, especially for superior commodities such as coffee, sugarcane, and coconut.

"Actually, we can be very independent, especially since we have superior seeds," he said.

Syukur, who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Sugar Producers Association (Gapgindo), said that there are now two of its members that already have a laboratory for superior seeds from tissue culture. They are PT Rajawali I and PT Muria Sumba Manis. Next, PT RMI and PT Pratama Nusantara Sakti will also have their own laboratories.

"We expect BSIP Perkebunan's guidance to these laboratories," Syukur concluded.
