Blitar - In the midst of a working visit to Rejoso Manis Indo Sugar Factory, Chairman of Pandu Tani Indonesia (PATANI) Sarjan Tahir together with Expert Staff of the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ir Prihasto Setyo, MSc both took the time to dialogue with sugarcane farmers who are partners of PT RMI - Mitr Phol Group, Thursday (05/09).

The review was then continued with a direct dialog with farmers who are partners of PT RMI-Mitr Phol. The sugarcane farmers discussed the use of organic fertilizers in sugarcane land management and the need for agricultural machinery (alsintan).

The farmers hoped that they could access the People's Business Credit (KUR) scheme with affordable interest so that they could have alsintan according to the needs of the land. The equipment needed includes tractors that make it easier for them to cultivate the land and harvest their sugarcane. They do not want to be left behind by other more modern countries.

According to the farmers, the tools used today are still like the colonial era. “Until now, we still use sickles and machetes to harvest sugar cane,” said a farmer.

This aspiration was responded to by Patani Chairman Sarjan Tahir. “The enthusiasm of the sugarcane farmers in Blitar Regency is extraordinary,” Sarjan said. Sarjan promised to coordinate with related institutions, to facilitate access for sugarcane farmers to the KUR scheme. “We want to realize the hopes of these farmers,” he said.

Vice President Director of PT RMI - Mitr Phol Group Syukur Iwantoro said that he really appreciated the enthusiasm of the sugarcane farmers who had become partners of PG RMI. He admitted that he was happy to be able to bring together the farmers with Ketum Patani and the Expert Staff of the Minister of Agriculture to accommodate their aspirations about agriculture.

“We are also happy to be a liaison between the farmers and the Ministry of Agriculture and Patani, so that the hopes of these sugarcane farmers can be conveyed,” said Syukur.

PT RMI-Mitr Phol is a member of the Indonesian Sugar Producers Association (Gapgindo). The organization consists of eight sugar factories spread across Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and South Sumatra.
