Putu Juli Ardika said, the Ministry of Industry encourages the increase in productivity of the sugar industry through intensification and extensification patterns in accelerating the fulfillment of the increasing demand for sugar.
Blitar - In boosting sugar production, the Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, inspected PT Rejoso Manis Indo (RMI) - Mitr Phol Group in Blitar, East Java.
During his visit to PG Rejoso Manis Indo, Putu Juli Ardika said, the Ministry of Industry encourages the increase in productivity of the sugar industry through intensification and extensification patterns in accelerating the fulfillment of increasing sugar needs, especially in the domestic market.
Putu said that currently there is still a gap in sugar demand of around 850,000 tons for consumption sugar and 3.27 million tons for refined sugar. This surge in demand is due to an increase in household consumption in line with the increase in population, community income and the growth of the food and beverage industry which is projected to increase by 5-7 percent per year.
In increasing sugar production, Putu visited PT Rejoso Manis Indo (RMI) in Blitar, East Java. In 2022, PT RMI will receive a supply of sugar cane with a harvested area of ââ15,080 hectares (ha) and a production potential of 93,661 tons. When compared to last year, the harvested area increased from 13,721 ha and GKP production was 67,677 tons.
"To realize national sugar self-sufficiency, we from the government really appreciate the efforts made by PT RMI in developing the national sugar industry by establishing a sugar factory that is integrated with sugarcane plantations through partnerships with sugarcane farmers," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Director of PT. RMI - Mitr Phol Group, Syukur Iwantoro said, for this year the national contribution of sugar has reached 100 thousand tons. Even though the weather conditions are not good, the amount of production can increase compared to the previous year. PT RMI currently has a milling capacity of 10,000 tons of sugarcane per day (TCD) and can be expanded to 20,000 TCD and a production capacity of 1,500 tons per day (TPD) using Carbonated Remelt Defecation (DRK) technology.
"If this increase can continue for five months, we can contribute 150 thousand tons of sugar nationally," he said.
Syukur added that Blitar has the potential to become a bigger sugar producer. That's because the area of ââsugar cane that currently exists can still increase. According to him, currently there are still around 22 thousand hectares (ha) which is idle land, this could be a potential for new sugarcane fields, because the addition of new sugarcane lands is doubling per year.
